About the website

This website is intended as a simplified, concise, and widely accessible treatment of topics with a philosophical and spiritual theme, including some of those brought up in more detail in A Theory of Us: Philosophy, God, and the Meaning of Life

Why should we be interested in philosophy and spirituality? There are many reasons, but one of the most significant is: because what we believe truly matters. Our beliefs function in part to shape the way we see the world, and when we hold poor beliefs, we can end up being much worse off for it.

One area where I think people tend to hold very poor beliefs is that of spirituality. By applying philosophy and its methods of rational evaluation to key spiritual questions, we can not only discover where we have gotten things wrong, we can reveal opportunities exist for beleiving betterr. Or so I believe.

The Aztecs believed that the continued existence of the world was precarious, and could only be secured by sacrificing people alive to the gods. This horrific false belief led to the gruesome and pointless deaths of many tens of thousands of people. Photo: Wikicommons
